Show THE USE OF MANGANESE The use of manganese in the arts Ib of great antiquity, having been known al least ns long ago as the time of the ancient Egyptians. One of Ils first uses was in glnss making. Egyptian and Roman glnss wares have been shown by anaylses to contain ovor 2 per cent of manganous oxide. Pliny moutions the uso b the Roiuana of manganese oxido under tho name "mngnes." for decolorizing glass. Ho considered it a variety of lodcstone or magnetic iron ore. In the manufacture of steel, manganese man-ganese finds Its greatest use.
