Show GOV. JOHNSON GRANTS REPRIEVE Sacramento, Cal.. Dec. IS A reprieve re-prieve of eight weeks was granted to Charles "Silent" CarBon today by Governor Gov-ernor Johnson. Carson was to have been executed at Folsom penitentiary next Friday. He was sentenced to death undor the law which makes 11 a capital crime for a convict to nttack a prison guard in attempting to escape, and from tho tlmo he was sentenced, more than two years ago, has not spokon a word The stay was granted In order that further test of Carson's sanity might be made. It was urged by the warden war-den and by Dr F. W. Hatch, general superintendent of state hospitals, who headed the alienist commission which examined Carson some months ago and pionounced him sane. Dr. Hatch now believes that further fur-ther tosts should be applied and tho eight weeks' period will allow time, ho believes, for a consluslvc determination |
