A delegation dele-gation of leaders of the Roosevelt campaign in Massachusetts called at Oyster Bay today to talk over the sit-j sit-j uatlon which ha's arisen by reason of Col. Roosevelt's declination to accept the tes of tho eight delegatesat large. The delegation consisted of Matthew Hale, chairman of the Massachusetts Mas-sachusetts Roosevelt committee, Arthur Ar-thur D Hill of Boston, Charles Thompson, a Vermont man, and Elon Booker, treasurer of the Roosevelt National committee. Mr Hale, sneaking sneak-ing for the delegation, said ho had not come to persuade Col. Roosevelt to change his position. He said he was In accord with the decision. He assorted the only purpose was to attempt at-tempt to clear up tho confused situation situa-tion in Massachusetts. One of the party said some of the Taft candidates for delegates-at-large had announced heforo the primaries pri-maries woro held that, whatever the result of the preferential votq, they would not support Col Roosevelt If they woro elected. On this account, he said, some of the delegates did not feel like supporting President Taft Col Roosevelt does not entirely understand un-derstand the situation In Massachusetts, Massachu-setts, he added. "The colonel will remnin at Sagamore Hill until this evening, when he will deport for his Maryland campaign trip." |
