Show ANNUAL BALL OF 0. H. SJADEIS Tho annual banquet given by the board of education to Governor William Wil-liam Spry, his staff and ladles, and also the annual ball of tho Ogden High school cadets will be given on the ovenlng of February 1G, according accord-ing to arrangements which were mado at last night's regular mcetlqg of the board. The same elaborateness which has marked previous banquets will ho In evidence this year, while the cadets cad-ets drill, which will bo a foature of the grand ball, following tho banquet, will be especially fine. Tho board took the necessary steps last evening to arrange for an engagement en-gagement of Prof. Lyman Beecher Sperry, of Chicago, who will deliver a lecture at the High school auditorium auditor-ium on the afternoon of March 18th. Prof Sporry is a noted educator and is regarded" as one of tho foremost of all lecturers on tho subject of school work. His subject for the Ogden Og-den lecture will be announced later. Superintendent John M. Mills wns given the power to act in the mattor of securing n suitable place for tho high school basketball teams to practice. prac-tice. There arc several teams and the boys have requested theboard to provide a gymnasium in which to play, i The Fourth Ward amusement hall was mentioned as an available building for the basketball practice. Tho treasurer's report showed that the Bum of $15,258.88 had boon received re-ceived for school expenses. Of this amount $15,000 was received on account ac-count of the general taxos and $258.88 from the county auditor on account of redemption for the quarter ending December De-cember 31, 1911. Tho total cash on hand was $58,032.05. There aro at prosont nine students out of tho schools on account of quarantine quar-antine for contagious diseases. Tho report of the health committee showed show-ed six cases of scarlet fever, two of smallpox and ono of diphtheria, Tho bond of Miss Ivy Williams, clerk of tho board, in tho sum of $2,-500 $2,-500 and with tho Maryland Casually company as surety, was approved and accepted by the board. Superintendent Mills was granted a two-weeks' leave of absonco during which he will attend tho annual con-vention con-vention of school superintendents, which will bo hold in St. Louis during dur-ing the latter part pf Februaty, Mr. Mills will also visit a number of the schools between hero and St, Louis. oo |
