Hook 6f Kansas to the supreme court of the United States to succeed the late Justice Harlan have been Investigated by Attorr.oy 'General WJckersham and found groundless. Tho complaints were based upon Judge. Hook's decision in the Oklahoma 2-cent railroad rate case, which he held, to be confiscatory. confisca-tory. Mr. WIckersham concluded it was extremely unwise to Judge the character char-acter of a jurist by one opinion, simply sim-ply because It happened to be favorable favor-able to the railroads. An examination examina-tion of Judge Hpok was too conservative. conserva-tive. His conception of the man was based upon a consideration of his whole career uppn the bench. The result of tho investigation means that Judge Hook still Is among the foremost candidates for the supreme su-preme court vacancy but the President, Presi-dent, it is declared In authoritative circles, has not yet made up his mind as to the solectlon. |
