Among other thlngSj it provides that motor bicycles shall not bo operated within tho city limits at a speed to exceed ten miles per hour and that tho spoed at street intersections shall not exceod six miles per hour. There is also a clause which provides that all motorcycles operated one hour after sundown shall be equipped with a headlight. This latter provision, the officer says, Is being very widely violated. vio-lated. Thoro is another matter in connection connec-tion with the operation of motorcycles which, Officer Reast claims, demands attention. This is the practice of carrying a passenger on machines which are not constructed for a person per-son other than the operator. He claims that a second person, riding on the handlebars or crossbar of a motorcycle, mo-torcycle, interferes with the operation opera-tion of the machine and might be the cause of a serious accident, not only to pedestrians but to the riders. "While no serious accident has as yet resulted from tho carrying of an additional person on a one passenger motorcycle, the officer fears that such an nccident may occur any time and feels that this matter should be talen up In the new ordinance. |
