Show JUDGE PAGE MORRIS NOW IN SALT LAKE Salt Lake, May 30. Judge Page Morris of Duluth, Minn., judge of the United States court for tho district of Minnesota, and former congressman from that state, arrived in Salt Lake yesterday afternoon, and will open the June term of the federal court next Thursday, sitting in place of Judge A. Marshall, who is now presld ing at tho circuit court of appeals In St. Paul Judge Morris was In Salt Lake eighteen eigh-teen months ago when he sat on the bench for a brief period whllo Judge Marshall was in Oklahoma on matters mat-ters connected with the Indictment of former Governor Charles N Has-koll. Has-koll. This time Judge Morris expects to stay sovoral weeks, having received worcl upon his arrival last night that he would be noeded'Jierc longer than he had originally planned. The Judge Is a prominent figure nationally, na-tionally, having served In federal positions po-sitions for many years. Fourteen years ago he became signally known as one of tho chief opponents of tho froo silver Issue, during William J. Bryan's first campaign for the presidency, presi-dency, haing entered tho national congress as a. representative from Minnesota on the strength of his opposition oppo-sition to the silver standard. He served as congressman for six years, at the end of which, he retired to accept ac-cept the appointment to the federal bench for the district of Minnesota, where he has Blnce presIdcJ. He was enjoying his vacation on the Pacllfc coast when ho was asked to come to Salt Lake and sere in place of Judge Marshall, who had been called to presldo at the court of appeals ap-peals While here he will bear a number of Important criminal cases, notably the while slave cases growing out of the recent grand Jury investigation. The first of these will b'e that of William Siegel. charged with bringing n woman wo-man from Denver to Salt Lako for immoral purposes. Fred Baggs, Ross Morrison and others are also on the calendar, as well as a number of civil cases The Herald-Republican contempt caso which Is set for June 12, will undoubtedly be continued if Judge Marshall has not returned by that time.
