Show ARRIVAL OF THE mm POLES Within the nextnjur months the Merchants' Light & Power company will use in the neighborhood of 35 carloads of material In the construction construc-tion of Its electric light distributing systom In the city The work has begun, there now being about thirty men at work, and within a fortnight a hundred persons will be employed in the construction of the new system. Tho superintendent of construction work states that some delay has been 1 occasioned by failure on the part of the railroads to got the roles on the ground. Word was received this morning, however, that the shipment had passed Pocatello, and will arrive In Ogden today. If this proves true, tho company will bo prepared to put on a full force of men tomorrow or next day. The trunk lines of the system In the city will require about twenty-five carloads of poles, together with irons, cross arms, paint and wire. Nearly all of the material has been ordered and It Is anticipated that It will all be here when the time comes for It to be used. The first thing to be done Is to get the trunk lines placed, plac-ed, which means the placing of poles and the stringing ofVires for the arc light system for the streets. Prom these main poles will lead all the wires needed for commercial purposes, including tho lighting of business houses and residences. The wires carrying the voltage for the city lights however, will not be burdened with current for other commercial purposes, pur-poses, and the poles will bo so placed that they may bo strung with' numerous numer-ous wires. P D. Kline, head of construction, states that it will require something over 2,200 large poles to ijupplv the trunk, or ,prlmarj', lines of the city, and that It will require an army of men to establish the system within the contract time. This will be accomplished, ac-complished, he says, without fall and when the time comes for the new company to "turn on the light" it will be ready to do so. For tho tlmebolng, the company will get Its current and power from tho Bamberger steam plant at Fnrmington. This is a modern mod-ern plant, capable of furnishing all the power needed. If anything should happen to the plant, arrangements have been made by which the circuit cir-cuit can be connected with, tho Tel-luride Tel-luride Power Transmission company's line that passes through tho country on large steel towers. eo |
