Show TIMBER FOR PHOSPHATE COMPANY Jlobert J Snlolds of the Utah Chemical Chem-ical & Fertilizing company of Salt Lake, visited forest headquarters hero Thursday to confer with tho head of the department relative $ securing privileges In the use of certain cer-tain timber on the Carabou forest, Idaho, near Georgetown on Bear river, a fow milos east of Soda Springs. Ho was advised that as soon as his company com-pany Is ready to use the timber, definite defin-ite action will bo taken by the department. de-partment. Tho company claims to have valuable valu-able deposits of phosphate In tho section sec-tion of country referred to that they desire to reduce to a commercial form, and that In doing so It becomes necessary nec-essary to use a groat deal of fuel Heretofore, It Is said, Btono coal has been uBed In the reduction process, but a now plan has been evolved by which Salt Lakers think they can use charcoal In the process. The forosters say that in the vicinity vicin-ity of the deposits, there aro largo quantities of fallen timber aB dry as tinder that could be utilized to advantage ad-vantage in making charcoal. Tho government will not be ndverse to the uso of timber for tho purpose named, provided enough of It can be used to free tho forest to the extent of minimizing danger Most fires originate In forests where thero Is much dead timber and tho elimination of the Inflammable material will aid In the prevention of damaging forest fires. |
