Show MME. BERNHARDT. Mmo. Sarah Bernhardt played "Ch-mlllo, "Ch-mlllo, ' at the Orpheum theater last night. Thoso who havo read the novel have undoubtedly created a Marguerite Marguer-ite Guitar from their Imagination, but to conceivo tho part as Mmo. Bernhardt has and then to portray it, not as a character In a drama, but as a woman pulsating with life and love, is a task for only those who havo approached very near to tho ideal in the art hlstronic As Camillo. Mme. Bernhardt grip-pod grip-pod and thrilled her audience with the same wlzardly stagecraft which seems not to have suffered a mite through tho march of years. It is still Impossible Impos-sible tp resist her vivid personality, her powerful emotions and to but hoar her voice, so sensatlvo to every emotion, emo-tion, Is one o tho most delightful experiences ex-periences of one's theatrical life. Every movoment 1b fascinating; perfect simplicity marking all her work and when the curtain falls at the end of tho last act it seems as though Camillo has really passed away and not merely that the play Is ended. Mmo. Berhardt's support is excellent excel-lent Armand Duval, played by M. Tellengen, Is a most difficult part but It was extremely well interpreted, especially es-pecially In tho third and fifth acts. Altogether the entire performance was quite the most artistic one of tho season. |
