Show Following a Collision, Steamer Sinks, But Passengers Saved New York, May 12. The steamship Mcrida of the Ward line, with 207 passengers from Havana for this city, was rammed by the steamer Admiral Farragut from Philadelphia for Port Antonio, off Cape Charles, shortly after aft-er midnight. The Meridn's passengers nd crew were transferred to tho Admiral Ad-miral Farragut In life boats, but lost all their baggage. The Merida sank live hours after tho collision. Tho Old Dominion line steamship Hamilton Hamil-ton camo alongside the Admiral Farragut, Far-ragut, according to a wireless dispatch dis-patch received here at 10 o'clock this morning and took the Merlda's passengers pas-sengers and crew off. The Hamilton will arrive at Norfolk late today. |
