Having Hav-ing had every legal resource In a three-year struggle to escape tho penitentiary, peni-tentiary, Abraham Rifef, former political po-litical bo"ss of San Francisco, was taken to San Quontiu late todav to begin be-gin a fourteen-year torm for the brib ery of supervisors during the regime of formei Mayor Eugene Schmidt. As one final concession toktho fallen boss, ho was removed from the Countv Jail here to the penitentiary in a tailcab, Instead of the regular prison van. Ruef anticipated the usual prison regulations by having his mustache removed and his hair cropped closely beforo his departure. Only a handful of his former lieutenants and friends were at the ferry to bid him farewell. Warden Hoyle of San Quentln has announced an-nounced that Ruef will be put to work-in work-in the Jute mill of the prison. Attorneys Attor-neys for the prisoner will continue their fight for his liberation by making mak-ing application to the supremo court for a re-hcarlng, and that failing, the intervention of the federal courts may bo sought. |
