The mayor recommends I that employees be dispensed with in i all departments wherever possible, j that street lighting be discontinued nnd that no sprinkling be done, until 1 such time as tho city's financial condition con-dition is in bettor shape, j Tho communication was referred to committees of the departments most ' affected; and as a commencement the committee on police and city prison immediately brought in a resolution to dispense with two of tho four policemen, po-licemen, naming Police Warren S. Fcrro and Claud Wilson as the two to receive the official ax, their services ser-vices to be dispensed with March 15. This resolution was promptly adopted. 'Following this tho committee on irrigation ir-rigation recommended that Water Master T. J. Farrer be Instructed to discharge Deputy Walter Peay, which recommendation was also adopted. Mayor 4W. II. Ray also presented a communication vetoing the ordinance passed at the last session of the council coun-cil requiring owners of artesian wells to obtain permission from the city before permitting- the water from wells to flow Into the Irrigation ditches. ditch-es. Tho mayor was of the opinion that the wells were a great benefit to many citizens and that the ordinance ordin-ance was too stringent. The mayor's veto was not sustained, however," and the ordinance was again passed over his head by a voto of seven to three. Mayor Ray submitted the namo of C. D. Glazier as city Justice of the peace, to succeed A. A. Noon, deceased, de-ceased, and the appointment was con- firmed by the council.
