Show The "Farmeri' Tariff." McKinley's so called "farmers' tariff" does not seem to be doing its work well in California. A protectionist agricultural agricul-tural paper says: "More than 200,000 sacks of Lima beans are piled up at Ventura, Cal., waitiug for better prices. A year ago these beans brought five and six cents a pound; this year only two or three cents are offered." Two years ago certain farmers went i to Washington aiid had McKinley raise I the duty on beans from ten cents a bushel to forty cents; and now the California Cali-fornia fanners can get only half as much as last year for beans. |
