This Is the rate according to an ancient marriage contract found by Professor W. F. Petrie, of London, England. The contract, signed by au Egyptian, gave a woman $4, ap- -proximately, and In return she was to be the man's wife. If he wished to divorce her, the contract specified, he would pay about $17 for his liberty. , , ,g
