Show , Speed Cause of D. &. Ft. G. W. Wreck. Leadvllle, Colo.,- Excessive speed on curves was held responsible Monday Mon-day for the derailment of the Scenic Limited of the Denver & Rio Grande Western railroad near Waco, Colo., , Sunday morning with a loss of twenty-I twenty-I seven lives and fifty injured. President Pres-ident J. S. Pyeatt of the road declared j in a statement issued here Monday, j "The conclusion of our investigation j develops that the derailment-of train i No. 2 on an eleven degree .curve one-I one-I half mile west of Waco Colo., September Sep-tember 5, was caused by excessive speed," the statement said. "The train was running twenty-five minutes late and from the best information ' available and the position of the wrecked equipment, at a speed of between be-tween forty and forty-five miles an hour when it reached the point of derailment." |
