Show Navy Orders 54 New Airplanes Washington Five contracts for 54 new airplanes of improved types and forty-eight air-cooled engines at a total to-tal cost of $1.647,4 TS were awarded by the navy department. The awards represent rep-resent the first to be made under this fiscal year's appropriation for naval aeronautics and the machines will be of the latest models in flighting, training train-ing and observation designs. The Cur-tiss Cur-tiss Aeroplane and Motor company ol Garden City. X. Y.. under a $513,191 contract will build eighteen class "VF" (model F. 7 C-l) planes. These will be a special type shipboard fighter equipped equip-ped with Pratt and Whitney 400 horsepower horse-power air-cooled "Wasp" engines. To the Chance Vought corporation, Long Island City, New York, went a contract con-tract for 20 model O 2 U-l planes and spare parts at a cost of 5347.050. They will be an improved type of the present pres-ent 02 U two-seater Vought observation observa-tion machine. |
