Show BIG NEVADA RANCH NOTED IN PICTURES SOLD AT AUCTION Ely, Nev., Sheriff's sale was conducted con-ducted Saturday which involved 5,-0000 5,-0000 acres of land in the eastern section of the country near Baker, sixty-five miles from Ely, and a judgment for $500,000 and valuable water rights. The land made up what is known as the Baker or Meek ranch. It W3S bid in by the United Securities cor-poration cor-poration for $125,000, thus leaving a deficiency judgment of approximately $400,000. This ranch has provided good news copy of recent years. It was from there that the arrangements were made by Otto Meek for the filming of "The Covered Wagon" a few years ago by James Cruze. Many of the scenes were filmed at Garrison, a few miles distant. Meek played a prominent promi-nent part in the large-scale arrangements. arrange-ments. At one time much was heard of making this a typical "dude" ranch, with riding school and various forms of outdoor sports and instruction with a summer school for wealthy boys. Tribune. |
