Show j "EAT MORE SPl DS," AC'A CHAIRMAN ASKS Beaver county housewives were today asked to do something about the record crop of early potatoes now coming on the market. The appeal was made by members of the County Agricultural Conservation Conserva-tion Association. "With a record crop of early potatoes po-tatoes in sight here and elsewhere in the nation," the county chairman chair-man said, "millions of people abroad face starvation.' We can't send these abundant potatoes to them. They neither store nor ship well. Instead, we are sending wheat." Every housewife was urged to serve more potatoes to their 'families. 'fam-ilies. "They are packed with energy en-ergy penny for penny, potatoes are the cheapest energy-containing vegetable. One medium sized pota to contains as many calories as one slice of bread, besides vitamins vita-mins and minerals," the chairman said. "If every person in Beaver county, as well as the rest of the state, will eat an extra pound of potatoes per week for the next two months, we will dispose of the record crop." "Another thing," he pointed out, "people think potatoes are fattening. fat-tening. They're not. One medium sized potato has only about the same number of calories as a large . fpple. It's the butter and gravy that puts on those extra pounds." |
