Show MEXICAN LONG HORNS KEPT AS CURIOSITY The Mexican Long Horn is now in the curiosity class. The Federal Government Gov-ernment has a herd they are saving for the benefit of future generation. Los Angeles wanted them at the Stock Show but it cost too much. Long legs and horns were all right years ago in long drives to the Railroad and to protect the critter against predatory animals. What is wanted now is beef and muleys. Bruised carcasses and scored hides costs somebody usually the cowman breed off the horns or cut 'em off young! Only a few years ago asteer was a steer in this section and a fed steer brought about the same price as the grasser, because the packers couldn't get any more for that product, but now the demand exists fo rgrain fed beef, which throughout the year brings a price premium enough to pay the extra cost of production. |
