Show CLUB WOMEN WILL MEET AT CAPITOL Washington, D. C. Jan. Club women wo-men from every state in the Union will gather in Washington, D. C. January 13 for the annual mid-winter meeting of the Board of Directors of the General Federation of Women's Clubs. Mrs. John F. Sippel will preside. pre-side. The unemployment problem, the White House Conference on Child Health and Protection and Inter-American relationships will be discussed by experts. The women will be received re-ceived by President and Mrs. Hoover, there will be a pilgrimage to the United Un-ited States Naval Academy at Annapolis Anna-polis and a morning will be spent at the Penal Farm at Occoquan, the first industrial farm for misdemeanants. Members of Congress and their wives and other members of the official offic-ial and social life of the nation's capital capi-tal will be received at a large reception recep-tion to be given the evening of the thirteenth at the Federation Headquarters, Head-quarters, one of the historically interesting in-teresting mansions of Washington, having once been the home of General Gener-al Nelson A. Miles and at different times having housed various foreign legations. Senor Manual Freyre, Ambassador Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary Plenipo-tentiary from Peru, will discuss "The Value of a Close Inter-American Spiritual Spir-itual Understanding." The Ambassador Ambassa-dor is accounted a brilliant and able speaker and since this administration of the Federation has stressed the study of the Americas, this address is eagerly anticipated. Dr. James S. Plant, Director of the Essex Coimty Child Guidance Clinic, Newark, New Jersey, will speak on the Findings and the Significance of the White House Conference on Child Health and Protection. Pro-tection. Dr. Plant headed one of the more important committees in this conference and his fine handling of the many problems presented, caused him to be sought out to present this vital matter to the Board. Dr. Lillian M. Gilbreth, head of the woman's division di-vision of President Hoover's Emergency Emer-gency Committee for Employment, will tell of the remarkable response she has had from club women and present further ways of aiding in solving this problem. The business sessions of the Board will begin the morning of the fourteenth four-teenth and will continue over Friday with three sessions a day, the morning morn-ing and afternoon sessions being devoted de-voted to routine business and the evening ev-ening session being given over to outside out-side speakers. These regular Board session will be preceded and followed by smaller gatherings, including meetings of the Executive Committee, the Board of Trustees, Conferences of Directors, Presidents and Department Chairmen. It is expected that there will be about 100 present. Many of the Directors will remain over for the annual an-nual conference on the Cause and Cure of War which immediately follows fol-lows and for whose delegates, the Federation will give a large reception. |
