Show ANNUAL SCOUT SOPARAVAN TO BE HELD IN MAY Cedar City, Jan. 6, 1931 The annual an-nual Boy Scout Soparavan will be held on the Branch Agricultural College Col-lege campus May 1 and 2, 1931. The event will be under the direct charge of the college Public Service Department Depart-ment in connection with the scout commissioners Mr. .1. Y. Bigelow of Cedar City,' Mr. B. Glen Smith of St. George, Mr. O. C. Bowman of Kanab, Mr. John S. McCallister of Hurricane, Hurri-cane, Mr. Grant B. Snow of Overton, Mr. Henry Bowman of Milford and Mr. L. C. Miles of Cedar City acting as committeemen. At a meeting held in St. George, Jan. 3, the following recommendations recommenda-tions were acted upon and will determine deter-mine largely tthe nature of the event: 1. That Soparavan he held at B. A. C. on May 1. and 2. 2. That the usual program be carried car-ried out with the following charges: A. That part, at least of the event will be for mass participation and not competitive. B. That the following competitive events be held: 1. Archery. 2. Wall scaling. 3. First Aid. C. That awards for those evente be given to troops and not to individuals. individu-als. D. That each commissioner appoint ap-point some troop to stage a dramatic demonstration, portraying, either some phase of scouting, or depicting some historic event which would typify ty-pify the district from which the troop comes. E. That the officials' banquet and Court of Honor be held as usual. P. That all of the trail builders of every district be ready for the inves- ture ceremonies, (those to be held, either as a feature of the afternoon program or as a part of the evening, (court of honor). G. That each troop stage its exhibition exhi-bition within its own tent and invite other scouts, and the general public to visit. (This would be especially planned to bring tthe boys nearer each other.) H. That the rules for archery be revised, eliminating the item that extra points would be given to the boy who used a bow and arrow which he had made. The wall scaling scal-ing and first aid to remain the same. I. That at the officials' banquet, problems relating to the summer camp and fall outing in Moapa, be settled. The final details for the event have not been completed, but the committee appointments will be made within a few days from the B. A. C. and work throughout the Southern Utah district of the Tim-panogos Tim-panogos Council will be directed toward to-ward the Soparavan. |
