Show ANOTHER REASON In conversation with a gentleman from Los Angeles who handles dairy products down there, he told us that southern Idaho was shipping to Los Angeles 15,000,000 pounds of butter a year while Utah was only sending 3,000,-000 3,000,-000 pounds annually. Utah butter is shipped in large packages and is repacked repack-ed with a California brand on it and sold to Los Angeles markets. We compliment our Idaho friends on what they are doing and suggest that Utah farmers should awake to the possibilities of a Los Angeles market and produce more dairy products. Think of Idaho shipping five times as much butter to Los Angeles as we do and all of it is shipped through our state at a much longer distance than we have to send it. Utah has the feed and the climate for producing large quantities of dairy products. We lack the inclination, the desire to go out and secure more and better cows. When Idaho can produce this amount and Utah is producing so little in comparison, it seems to us that it is another good reason v!hy we should go into the dairy business. Utah Farmer. |
