Show DRIVE FOR BETTER HOMES DIRECTED BY MRS. RUE NIELSEN Mrs. Ethel E. Nielson of Milford will head the committee and direct the Better Homes campaign in Beaver County this year according to information infor-mation received this week from Washington. Wash-ington. Mrs. Annie J. Atkin has accepted the chairmanship for Milford and Mrs. Mary Goodwin has been offered the chairmanship for Beaver while Mrs. Nielsen, whose extension work at Logan Lo-gan in home management projects has especially fitted her for the work, will direct the activities throughout the county. ' The local program is a part of the nation-wide campaign to bring about more attractive architecture, landscaping land-scaping and furnishing and better construction for small homes. This program is sponsored by Better Homes Hom-es in America, the oranization which was initiated in 1922, with Herbert Hoover, then Secretary of Commerce, as chairman of its board of directors. Mr. Hoover continues his interest in this important work by serving as honorary president of the organiation. Dr. Ray Lyman Wilbur, Secretary of the Interior, is its president, and Dr. James Ford, executive director. The Better Homes movement is cooperating co-operating with the President's plan for the stimulation of home building and home ownership ,as outlined in i his statement to the planning committee com-mittee of that conference, which met ' on September 24, 1930. The purpos of that conference is a determination of the facts with relation to housing and home ownership in every import-! ant direction and the formulation of j the collective judgment of leaders of j the country. The Better Homes move-! ment is engaged in mobilizing men j and women in every American com-! munty in an active program which ! will provide for families of small or modest means attractive, comfortable, I convenient homes, and encourage a 1 wholesome type of home and commun-! ity life. , |
