Show Farm News-Notes By LEW MAR PRICE County A sent Younger Cattle Demanded by Feedlots Cattle feeders should be especially careful this fall to secure the kind of cattle that, when finished, will fill the market demand. This is always a more or less variable factor, but the general trend is in one direction and present conditions point more strongly than ever to that class. Up to a few years ago the three and four year old steer was the standard in all feedlots. Since then the demand has been gradually stepping down to the two-year-old, then the yearling, and now the calf. The increasing demand de-mand for the smaller cuts of beef coupled cou-pled with the decreasing demand for the larger cuts is the consumers' side of this story, while the lesser cost of producing a pound of gain on the younger animal in the feedlot and the impracticability of carrying steers to three and four-year-olds explains the reason for the preference of the pro- lucer and the feeder fo the younger critter. With the buying power of the consuming con-suming public materially reduced, the appetites for meat will likewise be reduced, re-duced, and the smaller cuts will of necessity be in demiind. Hence cattle feeders will look for the kind of feeder feed-er steer that will finish quickly and with the cheapest feed cost. Milford and Minersville Horses Entered Enter-ed In County Fair Performance Competition Interest in'both running and pulling matches at our County Fair will be intensified by entries from Milford and Minersville this year. First honors the mediumi class weight last year went to the H. F. Baker team in Minersville with a near state record pull. That same team has been entered again this year. Charles Thomas of Milford has definitely de-finitely entered his team in the light weight class ,and although smaller than some in the class it is certain they will make others exhibit some unusual strength and cooperation if they beat them. It will be of special interest to the . Milford people to know that the Cook 1 horses are to run in the races. These horses are bred and trained for speed, and will no doubt be among the best entries. While only one running horsa from Minersville has been entered, rumor has it that several of the hot bloods are being trained for the purpose and will be present with thrills for everybody. every-body. The County Fair and Race Meet this year promises to be much the best ever held in the county. Clipping Machine Available A clipping machine purchased by the County Fair Board for clipping stock, especially dairy cattle for the County Fair is available for the use of everybody. A ppointments can be made with the County Agent for a time to use it. Make appointments early so- everybody won't want it at the last minute. Those who have already clipped their stock are astonished at the improvement im-provement made, and think the little trouble is well worth while. Many times a cow can be shown very well without clipping all over, but a little trinimling around the head and tail makes a very groat improvement. |
