Show ment for a railroad, ' for a town 1 1 e . for their own betterment demands that they increase their water supply by all known means. It is so much to them. To Delta it means that we sit placidly pla-cidly by and say, "We have enough water in Millard NEVER to want any more; don't waken us." We don't nued to argue. The point is too obvious. It leses by overmuch exposition when already plain. Fillmore, Delta have you all the water you will ever need? Have you no growth demanding that you interest in-terest yourselves to squelch this attempt? at-tempt? Are you not going to frustrate frus-trate it? The commercial clubs of the two towns should act in hearty coopera-Mon coopera-Mon in this highly important joint matter, and act at once. Give it thought. MILLARD TO LOSE WATER The Deseret News of the 21st, last, contained a news item that there was a proposition to put water out of the big reservoir which supplies this region re-gion with water, onto the Levan ridge. The "beneflcoal use of water" statute sta-tute which we have was not made in to hold water for speculation for years, nor to develop a price for it by a few bona fide farmers, nor to withhold that surplus from real beneficial bene-ficial use and then, when advanced in price at a large profit, sell that corner on a State utility to another. The case is ecpecially flagrant in that , actual water was not put to beneficial use. What did Levan Ridge or Juab County ever do with Sevier Bridge Reservoir water, dam or rights, to make that water valuable? To take that water away from a region where thosands of acres are now crying for more and more water? Why are we asleep while negotiations go on to take any water out of the Big Dam for any other region than our own? There is a company, with thousands thous-ands of acres of the finest land ever found, which Is in a position and has been willing for years to put this water wa-ter to beneficial use, under an arrangement ar-rangement which would be fair and equitable to all. But they should not be required to pay and in turn the settlers to whom they sell be required re-quired to. pay for the mistakes made by others through the misapplication of this water. It was not the intent of lawmakers to so draft legislation that speculation specula-tion could arise from an abuse of holding a State's resources. That 1b aimed to be prevented. Yet here is an open case of It. We voice the sentiment of many when we protest against letting surplus sur-plus water rights be taken from Millard Mil-lard County, which were gotten here, developed here, and belong here. That water should go to the bench lands of Millard County. Fillmore and Delta should arise solidly and oppose any attempt to place that water wa-ter elsewhere. It nppeals to Fillmore In that every ev-ery drop of water is needed to-supply the needs of Greenwood, Cedar Mountain Moun-tain and McCornlck; they should not nod while this Is being stolen from them. Their necessities dictate not less but MORE water to the big ditch which supplies them. Their develop- |
