Show A BUNCH OF DEAD ONES Ih-lta has been Incorporated now for nearly two years. Up to the end of lust June It had received revenues amounting to about $1100, of which S'JOO bad been expended. Hut who would suspect It? The streets are In worse condition than they were two yeara ago. Every automobile driver says Clark street Is the worst piece of road In the county. Wetnla line every street and canal, eicept where a few enterprising citizens have cleared clear-ed them out One of the biggest bunches of tumble weeds and thistles Is In front of where the town board meeta occasionally, and where one flourished all last fall and winter. Pedestrians Pe-destrians have been obllgd to Jump serosa the ditch at that point all summer sum-mer for want of a dollar's worth of plank and a half-hour's work. With every rain that conies, Clark street Is full of mud puddles and the sidewalks are Impassable. A weed ordinance was paused the first of the month, but not the first step has been taken to enforce It If those who have been paying licenses the past 20 months hsd used the moo y to lis up In front of their own places, we could have a few good streets and walks. As It Is, we have nothing of any benefit to show for our money. The only Industrious Indus-trious official we have la our town marshal, who never forgeta to call promptly every quarter for our II-cnse II-cnse money. The result Is w. have the most ragged and unkempt looking town In the county, and the subject of ridicule by every visitor who comes to town. What la the tosn board going to do about It? We voice the opinion of nine out of ten of our cltiiene when we say that whether we consider them as a town board, the bead push of the Commercial club, or the Clark street windjammers, they are th deadest bunch of eelf appointed appoint-ed officials that ever attempted to run the affairs of a community. We don't know whether It Is possible to gal vaniie them into any activity during the remaining four months of office, but we wilt try. |
