Show THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS We bear a good deal of criticism of the county commissioners for their failure to spend any road money for the benefit of DelU and the west tract. Something like $2,000 has been spent the past year for roads and bridges, but if any has been spent for the benefit of this section we bave failed to note it. The principal reason why a commissioner was elected from DelU was the expecUtlon that some road work weuld be done for our benefit ben-efit but the expectation has so far not been realized. Last spring a committee commit-tee from the west tract met with the commissioners to lay out a county road on the west side. It was accepted accept-ed with the understanding that sufficient suf-ficient road allowance ahould be secured se-cured front abutting property to make four rods. The editor was one of a committee which secured this allowance allow-ance from nearly every farmer. But nothing was done. We were then assured as-sured that the appropriation from the state would be used In part for this work. One thousand was received from the sute for road purposes, but none of it waa used lot this purpose. The commissioners have fixed the bridge going to Hinckley and will build one at Leamington. Both of these are needed Improvements, but the west side has been trying for four years to get a little road work done over there and It seems as If It Is about time something were done. The business men of DelU contributed contrib-uted quite a sum of money and bad some work done on the road leading east on Clark street to connect with the Holden road under the understanding understand-ing that the county would also do some work. They did nothing and the road haa never been made passable. passa-ble. They were Just as slow about passing pass-ing a weed ordinance. The Water Users' association sent a communication communica-tion to the Board last May urging the passing of ao ordinance. Nothing waa done until a committee went over to the August meeting and Instated on having an ordinance passed. This waa done. They also asked that It be published pub-lished in the Chronicle. Commissioner Commission-er Mai field promised that this would be done. Instead It was published in the dinky little Fillmore paper and not a person on the tract knew it had been passed until they saw a synopsis of It In the Chronicle the following ! week. It was passed too late to be capable of legal enforcement In any event They published the ordinance relating relat-ing to the Hinckley drainage district ( In the same paper. From all we can find out there are only 2Stubscriber In ll these towns on the west side, rhe Chronicle haa more than 300. ' which is more than the entire sub- icrlption list of the Progress Review. ( Probably every person in that district ( takes the Chronicle. Don't forget gen- , iemen that the only way you can , each all the people In the county and , specially those on the west side I ( ij publishing your notices in the ( Chronicle. ( |
