Show The Horror of It Last week up in the Twin Falls country of Idaho, two mothers moth-ers and fathers locked their little offspringe, ranging in ages from eight years down, in one of their homes and started off to attend a party at a neighbor's. They hadn't gone a mile when they looked back and saw their house ablaze. A hurried return only brought them added grief, as they found the house too far gone to enter and their children were all inside burned to death. Only a few years before in this same locality we read of a mother moth-er going to church and locking her four little ones in the house, returning to find her babes offered of-fered up as a sacrifice to an unthinking un-thinking mother, who, no doubt will be tortured all the rest of her life by the horrid consequence conse-quence of a thotless act. There are many mothers who unthinkingly unthink-ingly expose their babes to a dozen dangers without giving them a care while doing so. And it seems strange and unnatural that a mother can go away in frivolities and pleasures and spend the time not knowing what horrors may be at that time destroying de-stroying her children. A copious rain fell all over the Intermountain country the last of last week, breaking a protracted dry . summer and moistening the ground considerably consider-ably and settling the roads which had become very dusty and chopped up. Altho we have had a very dry summer thanks to irrigation ir-rigation our crops haven't suffered suf-fered for want of moisture. When we want water we open the headgates and turn it in. It's a an advantage to live and farm in a country where . you have command of the ele- ments which go so far toward making the crops upon which we depend for existence. Steps are being taken to establish estab-lish a public lihrary for Delta and those who, are in a position , to contribute books for the same ; are asked to leave them at the Delta Merc. Co, store. They are . also requested to write their name in the book they contribute. The library will be in charge of Mrs. Johnson and kept at her home and opened certain days each week until a more suitable place can be found for it. In the New West Magazine for . August, is an article on the Greater Delta Country by Rob- ert W. Spangler. It is well written, and mentions a good many local people, and therefore is of much interest to the home reader. A horse laugh was heard last ; week when the Dentists of Salt Lake were entertaining the veterinarians, vet-erinarians, after meeting a train : which' was supposedly carrying ' dental delegates but who turnea out to be veterinarian delegates. Utah has been awarded . five gold medals at the San Diego i Fair. |
