Show Irvin E. Jeffery, Delta Pioneer Died Monday Irvin Ether Jeffery, a retired farmer, far-mer, died at his home in Delta on Tuesday, June 12, at the age ot 70 years, following an illness of some , duration. ! He was born on Santa Clara Creek in Washington County on Feb. 24, 1875, a son of Thomas A. Jeffery and Elizabeth Cowper. He married Adeline Buchanan June 28, 1905, in the Manti Temple. To this union were born eight children, of whom the following survive: Orval F. Jeffery Jef-fery of Delta; Pearl Jeffery of Salt Lake City; Zerma J. Sehlappi, of Delta; Eldro E. Jeffery, Delta; Dr. Ihff C. Jeffery of Provo; Irvin W. Jeffery and Jay M. Jeffery of Delta. He lived for a while in Pine Valley, Val-ley, near St. George, and then moved with his family to Wayne County. He came to Delta in 1906, land had lived here continuously ever since, a period of 39 years, jone of the very first settlers to ar-Inve ar-Inve here. He was a successful farmer, and prominent in both civ-, civ-, ic and church activities. He was I ward clerk of Delta for a number I of years in its early days; Stake Superintendent of Sunday Schools I for several terms; president of the (Drainage Board for about twenty years; and president of Melville Ir-ngationt Ir-ngationt Company until ill health forced his resignation. He was also a high priest in the L. D. S. Church. Besides his widow and the children chil-dren above enumerated, he is survived sur-vived by the following brothers and sisters. Walter H. Jeffery and Mrs. C. C. Jacobson, St. George; T. A. Jeffery, Salina, and E. W. Jeffery, Jef-fery, Delta. Funeral services will be conducted conduct-ed by Bishop A. O. Gardner in the Delta First Ward Chapel on Friday Fri-day at 2:00 p. m., under the direction direct-ion of L. N. Nickle & Sons mortuary. mortu-ary. Interment will be in the Delta Del-ta cemetery. |
