Show Resume Approving Home Canning Sugar Coupons Issuance of home canning sugar certficate is again underway at the local war price and rationing office. The critcal situation in supply and demand has forced the OPA to limit board quotas to 70 percent of the 1944 season. Boards must not exceed allotments issued on that basis, therefore a maximum of 10 pounds of sugar per person for home canning only will be issued. Value of certificates already issued will not be effected by the change. If boards will issue certificates only to those who will actually use the canning sugar for food preservation, preser-vation, additional allotment may be available later to those now being be-ing limited to ten pounds. Boards must keep within their monthly quotas, and officials have warned that we may expect no sugar su-gar "windfalls"-- no extra or emergency emer-gency quota to help provide for any over-issue predicament. But if they can screen out those who are not entitled to canning sugar there will be plenty for actual canning purposes. pur-poses. Widespread over - issuance of home canning sugar last year reduced re-duced sugar reserves for 1945. Instead In-stead of putting out the maximum of 750,000 tons allocated for that purpose, boards throughtout the nation issued in excess of 1,100,000 tons nearly 50 percent more than necessary. Many people got home canning sugar who did not need it or use it for home canning. Nels L. Petersen, of Salt Lake City, is spending a few days in Delta this week. |
