Show Delta Airport Invited To Take Part in Contest An invitation has been received by Delta Airport to compete in the Andrew J. Haire Airports Award for 1945 which carries $7500 in cash prizes as provided under the rules recently announced by the National Nation-al Aeronautic Association. These rules have been drawn especially to enable airport operators and planners in small towns to compete compe-te on equal terms with large scale airports or airport projects. A first prize of $5,000, second of $1,000, third of $500, and ten of $100 each will be given for outstanding out-standing contributions to the nation's na-tion's airport development between January 1 and September 1 of this year. Stressing that the fundamental funda-mental objective is in reaching all categories of airport or municipal personnel, Mr. Haire, publisher of aviation magazines and donor of the awards, declares "The $5,000 first prize is just as much within reach of the small airport operator as it is of the already well-known executive. In addition, the ten $100 prizes were especially created to interest the smaller man who might otherwise feel that an apparently ap-parently unimportant idea would have no place in the judging." The rules set up by the NAA to govern-the judging of entries are designed to stimulate ingenuity and initiative at the "grass roots." As a guide of ideas and achievements achieve-ments to be considered, two general gene-ral classifications have been esta- blished. Under the first, airport development, are included planning, plan-ning, promotion, financing, construction, con-struction, engineering and material and equipment. The second classification, classi-fication, management, lists, field operations, flight operations, field and building maintenance, financial finan-cial operations, personnel management, manage-ment, service, community and customer cus-tomer relations, merchandising, advertising ad-vertising and publicity, and revenue reve-nue producing ideas. Only persons not eligible for the Andrew J. Haire Airport Award are employees of the Federal Government Govern-ment and of the Haire publications, and paid employees of the National Nation-al Aeronautic Association.
