Show Abbott .Turret Gunner. Advanced in Rating AN EIGHTH AIR FORCE BOMBER STATION. England The promotion promo-tion of Mauley A. Abbott, 18, son of Mrs. Doris Abbott, of Delta. Ut., from sergeant to staff sergeant has been announced at the Eighth Air Force bomber base by his group commander, Colonel Elbert Helton, of San Antonio, Texas. The B-17 Flying Fortress ball turret gunner is a member of the 493rd Bomb Group. The group is a unit of the Third Air Division, the division which was cited by the president for its historic England-Africa England-Africa shuttle bombing of Messer-schmitt Messer-schmitt plants at Regeiisburg, Germany. Ger-many. Sgt. Abbott, a student at the Delta high school, entered the AAF in February 1913. He was trained in aerial gunnery at I. as Vegas Nevada, where he received his wings in May, 1911. He said he would probably be in Salt Lake Friday. M-S Hilton Hil-ton were thrilled as they hadn't heard any word from him for nearly near-ly six weeks. Dee Stevens, who is in the Navy, and a son of M-S David Stevens, returned to California Friday after spending his leave here. ' Radio Officer Calvin Webb, son i of M-S Leslie Webb, left Sundnv to report for duty in the Merchant J Marine. He flew from New iorK ', to Salt Lake. While here he said I he spent Christmas day with Gail ' Morris in the Solomons Islands. His trip also took him to South A-merica. A-merica. Pvt. Richard W. Christensen has been wounded and returned to the i United States. He has asked for j transfer to the Bushnell Hospital. Lt. and Mrs. George G. Chambers are the proud parents of a baby boy born on Feb. 13 at Miss Frei-se's Frei-se's Maternity Home in Bakers-field, Bakers-field, Calif. Mrs. Chambers is the former Miss Eloise Law and the baby is the second grandson of Mr and Mrs. W. J. Law. Ardell Black, who is in the U S Navy, visited the past week with his parents, M-S Calvin Black. This is Ardell's first leave since enter-j enter-j ing the service. |
