Show Early Settler Revisits Area Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Holdredge of Grand Junction, Colo., arrived in Delta Thursday and spent the weekend. They were house guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Hersle'ff and Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Walker for their stay. Mr. Holdredge is one of the North Tract's oldtimers, moving from Nebraska to settle at Sutherland Suther-land with his family in 1912. He built the house now occupied by Mrs. Jennie Thornton. His childreen attended Sutherland school, of which he was one of the first trustees. ( In 1918 Mr. Holdredge sold his 80-acre farm to the LDS church, and the east 40 was converted to ,a township, and the west 40 sold as farming property. After leaving Sutherland he settled set-tled in Loma, Colorado, where he farmed until he retired and moved to Grand Junction. His first wife, who was with the family at Sutherland, Suth-erland, died 20 years ago, and he later married his present wife, Mrs. Berth Holdredge. The trip back was his first in the 32 years since he moved away. Sunday afternoon Mrs. Hersleff and Mrs. Walker held open house at the Walker home 'for the visitors. visit-ors. About forty guests called and old acquaintances were renewed and early day incidents reviewed. Mr. Holdredge also visited many old friends in Delta and the North Tract during their stay. His seven children all attended Sutherland school during their years here. Now Maurice is at Englewood, Colo., Florence, Iva, Eva and Fern are all at Hotchkiss, Colo. Leslie lives at Lister, Mont., and Ted is at Woodland, Colo. Mr. and Mrs. Holdredge left on Monday morning to return to Colorado Col-orado and were stopping in Spanish Span-ish Fork to visit an old neighbor, Bill Huntington. |
