Show GEOLOGICAL WORK BY PROF. PETERSEN The work of mapping out the coal, sulphur, and mineral lands of Utah which will comprlso much of the first season's work of tho state- geologist, Is well under way, says Professor William Peterson, geologist of tho Utah Agricultural college, recently appointed geologist for the state of Utah. The work at present consists In taking detail geological cross sections sec-tions of the coal and sulphur lands' and of the mineral claims of tho state in an effort to determine their value, says Professor Teterson. The aim will be to get a fair working value val-ue of all lands to which patents have been granted. No attempt will be mado in any case to give a fictitious value to any property,. but a valuation valua-tion based on the value of the mineral, min-eral, the accessibility of the land to tho railroad, and the demand for the product will be reached. Much ground water Investigation will also be carried on in connection with the above work. Professor Peterson's work as state geologist will in no wise interfere with his work as professor of geology geolo-gy of the Utah-Agricultural college, he announced today. The first phase 'of the work for the state will be completed this summer and Professor Profes-sor Peterson will bo able to give his full time to his college duties. The work of this summer will afford an excellent opportunity to get in touch with local conditions all over Utah, announces Professor Peterson, and it will be used as the basis for much local work in his course in 'general geology. A courso in ground water is also to bo given this winter In which tfie findings made this summer will be emphasized. |
