Show KEEP SPORTS ALIVE. While the war will take thousands and thousands' of young men and athletes from the schools and colleges as well as from the various lines of sport, there is a tendency to encourage the sports and keep lip interest in sports as usual. In his address on May 22, President Wilson struck the right chord when he urged the continuation of sports as the best method of giving the nation physically fit men for all the duties that they may be called upon to perform. He said: I hope that sports will be continued so far as possible, as a real contribution to the national defense, de-fense, for our young men must be made physically fit, and exhibit the vigor and alertness which we are proud to believe to be characteristic of young men. The need of the continuation of sports as a national I asset was demonstrated in Ogden last Sunday when the baseball team from the U. S. army at Fort Douglas came i to Ogden and demonstrated that they were "physically! fit" in the game between a local team. Sports in the army and navy are encouraged. On ship board the boxing bout is considered by the seamen second to the real battle with the enemy. Sports must be continued and encouraged throughout the nation. The Ogden Examiner. |
