Show WEEDS MOST BE EXTERMINATED A campaign Is being waged against weeds throughout the ontlre county, especially against the Canadian thistle. this-tle. A weed committee, composed of canal owners, county officers, Robert Wrigley, county farm demonstrator, and others, has been appointed for the purpose of fighting weeds which havo been spreading so rapidly In tho county. The committee is surveying every avenue of control. They are asking the assistance and co-operation of every land owner and farmer, whether wheth-er he bo In tho country or In the cities. Mr. Wrigley has asked the support of the Garden club, which has been pledged to him. It Is up to all of us boys and girls to do our part In this Important movement and rid tho community of these obnoxious weeds. It might not be amiss to ask that every gardener keep tho thistles down In his lot, that none whatever be allowed al-lowed to grow. Watch tho Canadian thistle. Do you know It when you see ono? It Is of medium green color with a gray cast: tho leaves are scalloped giving a curled appearance Tho thorns seem to bo sticking out In all directions, direc-tions, but on closer examination they are found to be at tho apex of each scallop. One trip through a patch of them, and one never forgets them. They propigato both by the seeds and undqrgrund stems. In order to kill them It is necessary to keep them cut off under the ground, thus allowing al-lowing no portion to grow until the roots die. Without doubt, it Is one of the worst weeds that grows, and once started it Is no small task to (klll It. Tho old story, "a stitch in .time," Is very applicable. Get them now. M |
