Show To The Art Clubs, During the past two years the ladles of the A. 0. club have discussed ait in most of its phases, and we know that for a time they lead and discussed literatute bearing on the artistic home, lawns, style and convenience of residence, furnltuic, surroundings, etc. The Beacon Light club hits discussed music and musicians the past year, but wc have little doubt that they, too, have been heretofore interested in art. Logan offers a great opportunity for Improvement and the practical demonstration demon-stration of some of the ideas gained from the study of artlstlcN homes, and the knowledge that art clubs in other towns have formed themselves Into hnpiovemcnt .societies or allied then-selves then-selves with such organizations with most excellent results, leads us to ask why the local clubs should not start a crusade for a more beautiful Logan, a healthier Logan and consequently a happier and moie satisfactory Logan? Logan is today a very charming little city -nature has been wonderfully wonder-fully kind, but many of her citizens are not alive to the fact that their carelessness and lack of artistic conception con-ception coupled with a listless energy despoils the city of much of Its natur al beauty. The broken picket, tumble tum-ble down fence, Illy kept walks, paint-less paint-less residences, the broken water spout, lawns overgrown with weeds, the miserable, careless, woc-begone. appearance of the residence properties of some of our best people tells a story that Is not creditable to them. These Indications arc not of poverty, but of caiclcssncss and procrastination, Indifference In-difference and apathy, and tlic effect reaches beyond themselves. Such a piece of property detracts from all property near It and an Injustice Is done that man who takes a delight in the. appearance of his home. It may be said truthfully that there arc not three blocks in this city that present more than a half-satisfactory appearance. There are a number of splendid well-kept properties In the city, but from the fact that many of them arc between properties that arc poorly kept they arc placed at a terrible terri-ble disadvantage. However, there arc a number of nice, neat cottages, with a clean lawn, good walks and a bright, charming appearance that Impress every passer by. Practically every lesldence property In this city, no matter how small and uncomely at present, no matter how limited the financial ability of the occupant, but what with a little time attention, and energy could be made to look bright and chcciful, a ciedit to their occupants oc-cupants and to the city. The ladles clubs of this city could accomplish much for "beautiful Logan" Log-an" If they would unite In an effort to improve the conditions that exist. Let the clubs furnish literature calculated calcul-ated to arouse the people to what may be rightly termed their duty, duty for the reason that no one has the light to Ignore the beautiful; it is such a gieat portion of the good. Let them unite in securing a general improvement, im-provement, and the propriety of each individual member using every energy to accomplish the desired end on the whole block on which she ic-sides, ic-sides, could hardly be questioned. These are merely suggestions to the ladies' clubs, born of a deshe that something be done, and the faith that Logan women can accomplish as much aa their sisters in other cities once as Logan is but now the pride of States. |
