Show JAM CONTINUE TO ADVANCI. An Marching Toward WIJu, But Have Not Yet Encountered Russians. Advices from Toklo stato that tho advance guard of tho Japancso array In northwestern Korea occupied tho town of Seng Chung Saturday afternoon after-noon without opposition. Seng Cheng Is on the Pckln road, eighteen miles west of Cheng Ju, and about forty miles south of WIJu. When the Japancso drove tho Russians Rus-sians out of Cheng Ju last Monday, the Russians withdrew In two columns, col-umns, one going over tho Koak San road and the other over the Pekln road. The Japancso advance from Cheng Ju was made vory rapidly. It was anticipated that tho Russians would resist this advance, but they failed to do so, and It Is now not probablo that there will bo any further opposition south of the Yalu river. Cheng Ju, because of its superior natural surroundings, is tho strongest place between Ping Yang and WIJu. Dcslde these natural advantages thero Is an old Korean fort thero, which, had It been defended with spirit, would havo been hard to take. The Japancso aro gratified at the comparative case with which they drovo the Russians from this fort. Russian patrols aro reported to bo in the country enst or tho Pekln road, but It Is not probablo that thero Is any considerable forco of Russians In that section. Tho patrols arc withdrawing with-drawing gradually to tho northward toward tho Yalu. It Is reported that tho Ice on tho Yalu Is well broken up, and In tho futuro the river must bo crossed either In junks or ovor pontoon bridges. |
