Show H: I Work Ms I Worth While H Old Ricords in Bisimtnt bi- ing Takin Gin of. H At the present time a very splendid H fcrvlco for the county is being per- H formed at the court house. For many H years the basement of tills building H has been utilized as a storage room for H countless rocords, tiles and the like, H and unfortunately these have been H dumped therewith little care as to H their preservation. Under tho dlrec- H tlon of Commissioner Knowles the H basement is now being cleared of rub- H blsh and tho valuable records are re H C3lvlng the care they should have re- H celved long before this. The base- H ment Is quite damp as a rule and this H has caused many of the files and rec- H ords to mildew, but up-to date none H arc really damaged further than tho B caverlngs. Mr. Knowles ha,s had built H high and dry such receptacles as arc H needed and the valuable books are H now placed therein. They will bo H labeled properly and in the future H taken care of to as great advantage as H Is possible when vault room is not H available. Many of tho records are H very valuable, but 'heretofore they H have been treated as worthless. This H present care Is quite commendable, re- H gardless or who suggested It or is m carrying it Into .effect. Commissioner H Knowles deserves credit for the active H work connected with this preserva- H tlon not only this, but for small but H nccessnry Improvements In the engine H room. This room Is two feet lower H ' than the other basement rooms, and H In the spring is frequently Hooded H withsurfacoscapagc. A storage room m of wood built high and dry has just been' constructed and In this is placed the necessary engine-room junk. This little room serves a splendid purpose, and had been needed long. The court house Is being made more convenient all the time, and when all the basement rooms are cemented, as will 'be ultimately done, this building will hardly be excelled by any of the county buildings. J. W. Skelton, of the Skelton Publishing company, was In Logan the other day and after looking look-ing over our court house had warmest praise or it, saying that few if any serve their purpose bettor. |
