Show ' A SQUARE DEAL, While Superintendent McCarrey and at , least a majority, if not all, of trie members of the Board of Commissioners, are believers in the consolidation plan for the school districts of the county, there is no disposition to crowd this plan upon the people to the extent of taking tak-ing advantage of any situation. This was evidenced evi-denced at the meeting on Saturday. Anyone present could not have doubted that a vote taken at that time would have resulted overwhelmingly over-whelmingly in favor of consolidation, but be-causo be-causo of the fact that the teachers wero there in great numbers, Superintendent McCarrey failed to call a vote. The teachers' Interest Is so much more a direct financial Interest than , that of the average taxpayer that their vote in favor of consolidation might be open to suspicionand sus-picionand both the superintendent and commissioners com-missioners desire that the people shall have a square deal In this matter. If It appears that the possibilities for greater good under consolidation consoli-dation arc ndt sufficient to win the favor ofa majority or tlve people, consolidation will hardly hard-ly be forced upon them. The advocates of consolidation con-solidation believe the plan Is a progressive step that should not be delayed longer and are urging urg-ing reasons for their belief. The commission-e'rsare commission-e'rsare more than willing to listen to the reasons rea-sons of thoso who oppose consolidation, and both advocate and- opponent of the plan are urged to express themselves at the publlo meeting meet-ing called for February :!!). , |
