Show Nutting Says Pcct Fibs Is Here As Missionary to the Benighted. The "Wagon Missionaries," eleven reverend gentlemen of dif fercnt denominational connections aro in Logan and each evening at 8 o'clock hold "gospel meetings" on the Frist Natioal Bank corner. The gentlemen make it a point to steer cleaF of theological and sectarian questions, so they say and devote their timo and talent to the presentation of "tho great truths of tho Bible." Crowds of tolerably fair proportions have greeted the ministers thus far, and we havo not yet heard of any offense being given. Rev. Nutting, tho stcreopticon lecture man whom "Bro." V. S. Peet scored in his lectures through this country, is one of the party and he dpes not hesitate to brand Peet as a very wicked and perverted soul who has continually con-tinually misrepresented him. Ho says that when opportunity has offered, ho has easily refuted Pcet's assertions and has that gentleman thoroughly "queered" in the east'. While at this office, Rev. Nutting showed tho photographs photo-graphs of the views he uses everywhere ev-erywhere in his lectures, and wo have no hesitancy in saying that the views shown us are such that their presentation could not possibly pos-sibly bo an offense to this people. What Rev. Nutting says in explaining ex-plaining the pictures might bo offensive of-fensive we' can not say, because wo have never heard him give his lecture but he soys Peet has ne ver yet quoted him correctly. With this difference, however, The Republican has nothing to do. We have read some of Pceti's stuff, doubted not that a portion of it was true, and we havo enjoyed somo of the licks he has delivcredwhere it seemed thoj. were needed, but Peet wouldn't impress anybody with his size and it looks considerably liko he plays to the galleries. As for Rev. Nutting and his wagon load, we believo tho chunk of ice they cut in Utah isn't much larger than tho proverbial snowball after it hos rested nwhilo in that place from which tho rich man lifted up his voice for a drink of water. If both and the wagon load would but take a good long vacation vaca-tion up Logan canyon or on Bear Lake, thero tako an in ventory of themselves, separate separ-ate those fitted to preach and teach from thoso better fitted to hammer tho anvil or hold tho plow, and then go back to their respective places and bo all things to all men whereby . they may save some, tho harvest would bo n glorious one. To LIVE and teach Christ's love, tho spectr of which, according to Drum-mond, Drum-mond, reveals such ingredients ns patienco, kindness, generosity, humility, courtesy, unselfishness, good tomper, gentleness and sincerity, sin-cerity, will result in a great harvest har-vest any place on tho globe, and ono doesn't havo to travel over tho country in a wagon or givo ho-called refutations in meeting houses in order to LIVE and ,teach that kind of lovo. |
