Show ' 1 Wellsvillains Victorious Lose One Game, But Win the Other 4 to 2. WELLSVILLE, Aug. 5. Last Friday Wellsville again seemed to be the "center of attraction," as peoplo from all parts of the county gathered hero to witness the game of baseball between the "Preston Professionals" and the "Wellsville Farmers." A special spe-cial train from the north end of the valley arrived here at 3:15, and at 4:00 a largo crowd was assembled and every person was anxious to see the game commenced. com-menced. People were sure surprised sur-prised and disappointed, too, when Wellsville, out of mere sympathy for the Professionals, lost the game. At the end the score stood 15 to 7 in favor of Preston. The home boys took it easy, got an extra 'hitch on their belts and waited anxiously for Saturday. Satur-day. The early morning hours saw the Farmers boarding the train for Preston to have another try at the Professionals, and they continued to smile it wouldn't wear off. They went entirely through the game smiling and returned re-turned home with their faces aglow, for the final score resulted 4 to 2 in favor of the despised Farmers. He who laughs best laughs beht. On Friday night a pleasant surprise sur-prise party was given Miss Helen. Leatham by the officers of the Y. L. M. I. A. and Primary Association Associa-tion of the Wellsville ward, of which associations she was an officer. of-ficer. The officers, in company with a few of Helen's friends, went to her homo and a pleasant time was had. Refreshments were served, and the evening was spent in social ohat, games, etc. Those present were: Mes-dames Mes-dames Mary K. Walters, Delila Simpson, George Spcnce, Robert S. Bradshaw, Myrtle Nelson; Misses Esther and Mary Allen, Mhggie Hall, Millie Maughan, Barbara and Mame Williamson, Mnggie Walters, Ivy Coburn, Bertha Poppleton, Edna Jones, Emma Haslam, Maud, "Mabel and Mary Leatham. Miss Leatham was the recipient of some useful presents. Sho is an energetic worker in tho Wellsville ward, and what is Wellsville's loss certainly cer-tainly will be Hyrum's gain. Tho latest arrivals in town arc a girl at tho home of Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Brenchley on Mic 29th, a girl at tho home of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hall on tho 2nd, and a boy at the homo of Mr. and Mrs. Wn. P. Maughan. Mrs. Raohel Maughan, Mrs. Ileber Parker, and Miss Jessie Bradshaw left on tho 30th for Canada, where they will visit with relatives and friends, tho former with her son, and the latter lat-ter two with their sisters. Archie Ames returned to Nevada Ne-vada on Saturday, after a ten days visit at home. Ho was accompanied ac-companied by Wm. M. Allan. Miss Agnes Stoddard camo up from Pnrk City Friday, and' will spend a short timo visiting with homo folks. Mrs. Margaret Maughan, and daughter, Mrs. Win. Haslam, returned. re-turned. Friday morning from- a visit in Roxburg and Pocntollo. |
