Show " JS a& I Services held for Roda Wood Rhoda Matheson Wood, 85, of Cedar City, died at the Valley View Medical Center on Wednesday Wed-nesday January 1, 1975 of natural cuases. Mrs. Wood was born December 13, 1889 in Parowan, Utah to Alexander Gordon and Mattie Rassmussen Matheson. She was educated in the Parowan and Cedar City Schools and also attended the Branch Normal School. Married William Henry Wood in the Salt Lake Temple October 10, 1912. Being an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Latter-day Saints, she has served as MIA President twice, and has taught in that organization, Relief Society and Sunday School. She and Mr. Wood served in the Western States Mission from 1959 to 1963. While on their mission Mrs. Wood served as Relief Society President. For many years, she has served as a historian of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers Iron Mission Camp, also serving as captain in the Camp several times. Mrs. Wood has been active in music and has written numerous histories of Iron County and Southern Utah. Survivors include her husband, three sons, two daughters, nineteen grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. Mrs. John B. "June" Danvers, Murray; Mrs. Henry Clay "Esther" Hankins, Monroe, N.C. ; Henry Alex Wood, Chino Valley, Ariz; Lehi M. Wood, Cedar City; and Grant Ree Wood, Fort Erie, Onterio, Canada. Also surviving are three sisters and four brothers; Mrs. Ella Foster, Rass Matheson, Mrs. Marcella Jackson, Mr. Alva Matheson, Mr. Elmer Matheson, Mrs. Lydia Harter all of Cedar City, and Mr. Ray Matheson of Henderson, Nevada. Funeral services were held Saturday January 4, 1975 at 1:00 p.m. in the Cedar City Fourteenth Four-teenth Ward LDS Chapel with Bishop Garth Leishman presiding and couaselor Melvin Parker conducting. Interment was in the Cedar City Cemetery under the direction of Metcalf Southern Utah Mortuary. Udell W. Vaughn.
