Danger of poison arose at Municipal Munic-ipal Swimming Pool when tank exploded. Clorine tank explodes at pool Bedlam was created at the Parowan swimming pool Monday Mon-day afternoon when a clorine tank exploded with the pool crowded with swimmers. Mrs. Maxine Stolk pool manager quickly cleared the pool and told the swimmers many of whom were children; to run from the pool area. She was assisted by life guard Karl Bentley. Karl was in the furnace room tightening the tank, when the accident oc-cured. oc-cured. The clorine tank had just been changed and was being adjusted when the ex. plosion went off. The Parowan volunteer fire department was called and responded re-sponded immediately with res-susitators res-susitators and oxygen equipment. equip-ment. Many of the children had inhaled some of the poisonous gasses and were choking and coughing. Prompt action by Mrs. Stolk and Mr. Bentley and the Parowan Fire Dept. were cred. ited with preventing any serious ser-ious effects from the gas. The children were treated with oxygen and later released releas-ed to their parents. |
