Show Municipal election for 1973 should be wide-open affair Although election time 1973 is four months away, it is not too early to consider the offices for which residents of Cedar City will be called to vote on in November. Three members of the Cedar City government will be completing com-pleting their terms of office at as Mayor of Cedar City. That means that the mayorship race will be wide cpen and in both parties consideration should be given at this point as to who would be likely candidates to fill Cedar City's highest elective position. Both Councilmen Hunter and Jones have indicated that they will not seek re-election to their respective positions in the city. Based on these announcements announce-ments it appears that this Municipal Mun-icipal Election year will be wide open. It could prove interesting. the end of this calendar year and elections will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 6 to fill those vacancies. Completing terms of office are Loren Whetten, Mayor, and Kerry Ker-ry Jones and Haze Hunter, members of the City Council. All three are completing their second elective term, which will be eight years in office, on December De-cember 31. In addition all three are members of the Republican party. Candidates for the positions will be selected by the Republican Repub-lican and Democratic parties in Cedar City at conventions which will be called between October 4 and 15. At that time the parties, par-ties, at the conventions, will nominate candidates for the positions. Since the conventions are not held until October very little has been said about the elections elect-ions at this point in the election elect-ion year, and traditionally little Is done much in advance of those convention dates. However, this year indications are that the three incumbents will not seek to win their parties par-ties nomination for re-election. Mayor Whetten Indicates that he is not interested, nor will he seek re-election to a third term |
