At a previous meeting of the Utah Transportation Commission, Com-mission, commissioner Samuel J. Taylor of Moab, expressed concern over the number of airlines which have announced intention of discontinuing air service to rural Utah com munities. "It appears that this commission com-mission should take a serious look at the possibility of establishing some sort of statewide state-wide system, utilizing commuter airlines and locally based air taxi, so that virtually every community in the state would have access to air transportation, tran-sportation, that would deliver air clients to key centers of transportation," tran-sportation," he said. Commissioner Taylor said he thought the system could be established easily and cheaply. "We have licensed air taxi operators all over the state with adequate equipment to transport people from small communities to larger communities serviced by commuter airlines. Our commuter carriers, which are as healthy as any in the west, could then transfer those people to major airports for transnort to any airport in the United States. The detail work in setting up the cooperative agreement could be very simple," he said. Commissioner Taylor said the service would not be financially self-sufficient initially. "However, it could be accomplished ac-complished at a fraction of the cost of current Civil Aeronautical Board subsidies to Frontier and Hughs Airwest, to serve the communities of Moab, Vernal and Cedar City," he added.
