Show Utah night hunting coritlitions: 2? detailed by Conservation Officer , WES SHIELDS CONSERVATION OFFICER Many sportsmen will remember remem-ber last spring of much talk and speculation about regulated regulat-ed night hunting. You will remember re-member that proposed regulations regula-tions were circulated which dealt with such things as purchasing pur-chasing a required night hunting hunt-ing permit, restrictions on firearms fire-arms and spotlight power, etc Recently, night hunting regulation re-gulation became a reality and because there are many questions ques-tions developing, this article will outline Important points to remember. It shall be unlawful for any person to take any form of terrestrial ter-restrial or avian wildlife with fhe aid of any artificial light except as provided in the current cur-rent night hunting proclamation. proclama-tion. The proclamation allows hunters hun-ters to take coyotes, foxes, bobcats, bob-cats, skunks, and jackrabbits at night providing he has obtained ob-tained a certificate of registration registra-tion (at no cost) from a Wildlife Wild-life Resources office and in conjunction, a written permit from the county sheriff in who's county hunting is to take place. Individuals between the ages of 12 and 16 years may participate; partici-pate; however, they must be accompanied by and hunt under un-der the supervision of an adult. Individuals under 12 years may not hunt at night. Hunting within one mile of an occupied dwelling is pro-hibited pro-hibited as well as is hunting withing one half mile of corralled cor-ralled or flocked livestock. Land owners may take depredating, de-predating, unprotected terrestrial terres-trial wildlife with the aid and use of an artificial light at any time on private lands under un-der their control. - One , i m p ortant ,. regulation . should be we'll'" understood'; sport hunting at night is prohibited pro-hibited during . the period August Aug-ust 1 through November 15. 'J By recent proclamation, regulated re-gulated night hunting has come to pass; however, the newly adopted state regulations are not as restrictive as some of . us had feared. I'm pleased with the regulations because they are simple. Unfortunately however, how-ever, I worry because of this simplicity. Why? ' Because in-spite in-spite of the majority of hunters who care about their sport and who are very safety minded and ethical about their hunting activities, there are a few slobs who could and will bring about greater restrictions because they destroy property, kill or maim fellow hunters, and take wildlife wild-life unlawfully, You sportsmen who care, think about what I've said. Presently you have a good thing going for you. Its up to you to hold on to your hunting privilege, and the best way to do this is to ;develop good hunting ethics; police your ' own ranks, and cooperate with local enforcement authorities by detecting and preventing violations of the law and the rights of private Individual.
