Show Center providing one of thecluding major hospital complex-most complex-most modern equipped depart-es in northern Utah. mert in the entire state, ex- The Respiratory Department, A new concept in medical services is proving to be very successful at the Valley View Medical Center with the establishment estab-lishment of Respiratory Therapy Services through a contractual agreement with Medical Re- habilitation Services (MRS) of southern California. MRS is a subsidiary of Huntington Hunt-ington Health Services. Under agreement with the MRS the Respiratory Therapy Services have been established at the Valley View Medical equipped with over $20,000 In specialized equipment includes: A blood -gas analyser. -A pulmonary function machine. mach-ine. A volume venelator. -A attrasonic nebulizer, plus; -Respirators for treatment. The department is equipped to provide all phases of respiratory respir-atory therapy from diagnostic capabilities to treatment, according ac-cording to Lawrence M. Adler, who has been in charge of setting set-ting up the department for MRS. Under the contract agreement agree-ment Valley View Medical Center provides the necssary space for the department, but total equipment purchase and maintenance of the facilities Is provided through MRS. Adler indicated that Al Brown, Supervisor Super-visor of Respiratory Therapy for MRS and a certified technician tech-nician from Wyoming, will serve as supervisor of the department. de-partment. He will be assisted by Mike Hill of Los Angeles who will serve as staff thera, pist and a third person who will be added to the staff to provide complete service on a 24 hour call basis. The department will maintain main-tain 12 hour service from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and remain on call for the remaining 12 hours of each day. Emphasized was the fact that the department not only serves as an aid to ln-hospital patients, pati-ents, but can be utilized as an out-patient service as well. Adler indicated that anyone desiring treatment can avail themselves of the facilities with a prescription from their doctor. doc-tor. The doctor does not have to be a staff member of the WMC. As a matter of fact, Adler, Ad-ler, indicated that numerous referrals are being made from doctors in surrounding communities com-munities throughout the southern south-ern Utah area. Within the hospital the department de-partment provides emergency rrscitators in all departments, plus a portable unit for further emergency purposes. The fully trained staff will make it possible poss-ible for the department to serve the entire area, where previously previ-ously such services have been available only in the highly populated centers. Adler, who has served as an installer for MRS indicates that "it is the best equipped department de-partment in" the area served by MRS including units in California, Cal-ifornia, Wyoming and North and South Dakota. Serving as medical advisor from the Valley View Medical Center, is Dr. Scott Brown. Dr. Brown will serve as a liason between the newly established department and the hospital staff. Wm. Whipple, administrator at the hospital Indicated that the concept is providing WiMC with facilities that they could not acquire in any other way. Although space for the department depart-ment is provided by the hospital hospi-tal a portion of the patient cost will be fed back Into the hospital hos-pital to compensate for the space utilization, thus providing provid-ing the service at virtually no cost to the hospital proper. 4 " "' '$ !
