The new members of the City government were sworn into office at the city office building Monday by retiring Mayor Loren Whetten. Mayor Whetten completed an eight year stint as the head of the clty'g government Leaving of. fice with him were Haze Hunter, Hunt-er, who has completed two four year terms on the council and Mayor Jones. Mayor Jones served serv-ed two four year terms on the council before being elected Mayor in November. The new city manager is a native of Gunnison, Utah. He attended Salt Lake City schools. His experience Includes service with the Internal Revenue Service; Ser-vice; he was a member of the development staff of Bloom-ington Bloom-ington in Washington County, and served for two years as coordinator co-ordinator of the City of St George. For the past two years Em-ley Em-ley has served as a controller for a food processing firm in the Pacific Northwest Emley is married and has four children. He is a member of the LDS Church. The new Mayor also announced an-nounced that in a cooperative effort with an order by Gov-ernor Gov-ernor Calvin Rampton to District Dis-trict Engineers, efforts will be made in Cedar City to reduce the amount of street lighting on state controlled streets by approximately 40 percent. Working with the state and California Pacific Utilities Co. the Mayor indicated that lighting light-ing on the three Cedar City In-terchanges In-terchanges would be reduced by approximately 40 percent and that street lighting on Main Street and 200 North Street west from Main Street to the Interchange would be reduced on a selective basis. It is anticipated, he indicated, that every other street light wher practical, will be turned off. Mayor Jones Indicated, how-ever, how-ever, that the program is experimental ex-perimental at this stage and that adjustments can be made In the future. After assuming office the Mayor also Indicated that he will be available for communication communi-cation with the citizenry at the Mayor's office In the City and County Building each weekday week-day from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. The hours, again have been tenta-tively tenta-tively set and will be adjusted if they do not meet the needs of the Mayor or the residents of the community.
